May Training 2012 Summary Report

Hello Faculty & Staff:

This summary is a little late this year (only 6 months) but thank you all for another great May training series! We had 77 faculty and staff members sign up for 24 sessions. Total actual attendance was 126.

We are extremely pleased with the feedback we received about the courses and are encouraged by the increase in faculty participation this May. A special thank you to the Faculty Development committee for suggestions for topics as well as promoting the series.

Response rate for the survey follow ups was 69 out of 126 (55%). The feedback for each workshop was similar so we are only displaying the aggregate results for the three categories of evaluation, Workshop, Instructor, and Support Resources:

The evaluation model is new this year and is based upon Nova Southeastern University’s course evaluation tool.

Additional Brown Bag lunch sessions scheduled. iPad lunches in RH Cafe

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:

This Wednesday (March 2nd) in the Regula Hall Cafe Multipurpose Room from 11-1pm, we will be holding an iPad lunch. Bring your sack lunch or pick something up at the cafe and sit down with us on the couches. IT staff will be on hand to answer questions about the hardware and share the apps which we find most helpful. There is no set schedule so please feel free to drop in anytime during that time range.

We will be holding these regularly (every other week) opposite of the Lynda.com training sessions being held in CL24 (see previous post). We encourage you to bring your own ideas about the apps and items that you find useful.

Each of the sessions will be themed however we will take any questions that someone might have. Pack your lunch or grab a bite at the Cafe and join us on the couches in the multipurpose room in Regula:

  • iPad Lunch: Using GoodReader (Using GoodReader as virtual paper or a paper replacement) – March 2nd – 11am-1pm – in Regula Cafe
  • iPad Lunch: eReaders and electronic Textbooks (ins and outs of iBooks, Kindle, Nook, and third party eReader apps) – March 9nd – 11am-1pm – in Regula Cafe
  • iPad Lunch: Using the iPad as a Presentation Device (Keynote, video, and audio) – March  30th – 11am-1pm – in Regula Cafe

Who can attend?

Anyone is welcome to join us. While we will be covering the specifics about using the iPad; any faculty, staff, or students are welcome to come in and ask questions even if they are not already using an iPad.

Why are we doing this?

From June 2010 through January 2011, a group of faculty and staff were brought together to explore the applications of the iPad in and out of the classroom. One of the things we found most useful during our regular meetings was listening to the ways in which others had been using their device. These iPad lunches are a way to facilitate this same sharing beyond that group and to the Malone community.
